Today as I start this post it is February 6, 2024. The previous October 7, Hamas (and probably Putin) backed terrorists attacked a music fesitval in Israel killing and kidnapping hundreds of mostly young Israelis (plus a few from other countries including the United States).
The government of Israel, led by right wing anti two stater Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was outraged, formed a unity government and vowed retaliation. And with the overwhelming military superiority entailed by the Israeli Defense Force they promised to neutralize Hamas leadership in Gaza (area of 141 square miles) and rescue the hostages. To me they had every right to respond.
But it has been four months. And the mission appears far from over.
Now when war is inevitable it should be two things 1) quick 2) minimal civilian casualties. Now Bibi is 0 for 2. Despite overwhelming military superiority. personally I think it should have been wrapped up weeks ago. But I don’t think Netanayahu wants to see it wrapped up. Why not?
If and when Hamas is neutralized and the hostages are all accounted for, the questions will be asked about the intelligence failures that led to what happened on October 7th. And Netanyahu will be asked to leave his leadership position. Possibly for good. Bibi don’t want that. That is why he would rather stay in power than end his incursion (which has killed at least 20 times more Gazans than the number of Israelis the October 7 terrorists killed)
As for the United States government? There has been criticism from a few isolated Democrats about Israel’s actions but they are being swatted down by the uniparty AIPAC. As for MAGA non interventionist Republicans…full speed ahead with Israel support. Even Tulski (sic) Gabbard hasn’t said shit.
And as a result there has been quite a few on the left calling our president Genocide Joe. I think he wants to see this incursion wrapped up as well but he too is being swatted by AIPAC. And would Donald Trump be any better? Google Miriam Adelson for an answer
And then there is Michael Rapaport. Known for being an ultral liberal before October 7 happened, he has become such a defender of Israel that he now says voting for “pig dick” (his words) Trump is “on the table”. Note: he has two sons of military age. As far as I know neither has volunteered for the IDF.
